About me

My name is Margaret Bruton and i am an abstract artist born in South Africa and now based in the United Kingdom.

Working from a compact studio in the former HMS Belfast ticket office situated on a floating pontoon on the Thames in London, I have developed a distinctive artistic practice that embraces both limitation and freedom. Surrounded daily by reflections, tides, and the industrial poetry of the river, my paintings try to capture a sense of emotional energy that is both intimate and expansive. My art often explores themes of transition, resilience and connection. It is a visual language that is vibrant, instinctive, and deeply personal.
Each painting reflects a lifestyle built around creativity, adaptability, and immersion in the elements.

Living and creating on the Thames has become central to my identity as an artist. The restricted dimensions of my floating studio encourage spontaneity and immediacy.
